meet Peter

I like to make stuff. And I like to know how stuff is made. When I was 8 or 9, I got a brand-new Schwinn for my birthday. The next day I had it completely torn apart, and my dad was not pleased. Day after that it was back together and my hide was not tanned.

Soon after, when baseball cards in the spokes got old, a neighbor friend and I figured out that mounting an old 2 stroke outboard motor onto that bike using a fan belt meant more speed than we had ever experienced before. And a lifetime of internal combustion was born.

Tried to keep it out of view of my dad, but eventually he found out. And to my surprise he asked to try it out. The grin on his face was huge, and my hide was preserved, again. Later, when I asked if I could buy a motorcycle, he said that would be “just fine.” He was a cool guy. And he didn’t seem to mind that it had to be taken apart; modified, before being properly ridden. To this day- it seems everything I own goes through some form of customization.

(Ain't she a 'beaut! She was driving the BelAir when we met. I can't be certain to this day if it was her, or the car... but i'll tell ya, the combo was irresistible.)

SpeedShifter Knobs

A truckload of years ago I picked up an F-100 Unibody. It was a roller. Zip on the important parts: no engine, no trans, no interior, no driveline. But more important - no rust. So, I proceeded to cobble together the working bits from racked leftovers and thus was born the "Frankenford."

Now able to move under its own power, I turned my attention to the inside: the shifter was just a long stick and needed something special. So, I made a knob. Heavy with metalflake, it turned out pretty cool. To go with it, soon were all the dash and doorknobs, and just about everything else that would look better metalflaked. A friend agreed with the cool factor, and I did knobs for his truck. And then another...

Now it's a few hundred knobs later and I can't get enough of this. The color combinations are endless; the knob shapes are infinite. I've enjoyed making every one of them. But my favorite? ...it's the next one

My new favorite project is your custom one.
Send me a message or order request using the 'Custom Order' button below. I look forward to working with you.

Hundreds of color combinations in any shape or size. Match your car exterior or interior. Available with universal mounts, thread-specific, SAE or metric, also Lokar.

I stock metalflake, solid opaque, marble pearl, holographic and clear options. I can mail sample color chips. See 'Color Choices' page for ideas of what I can offer.

A note from Peter’s daughter: when working on this website together, I told him it would be prudent to share some anecdotes about himself in an effort to relate to customers. He responded by saying coyly, “yeah, but I don’t like talking about myself.” True. My father, ever the crafty yet humble man. So, I will share for him. I’ll spare you the sap, *insert all the cliché ‘my hero’ anecdotes here.* Be assured they’re all true. What I will share is that this man has never met something he couldn’t figure out. I will share that he is so outrageously talented. From living out of his faded red (pink) Volkswagen bus as a nomad travelling across states, to art school at University of Oregon- my dad has lived so many different lives. But his favorites are the ones lived as a husband and a father. He is passion, he is hard work, he is humility. He is goofy, he is kind, he is the joy of our lives. There is no one more capable, talented or passionate to create and share a product with you. I have had the joy of witnessing, on many occasions, the giddiness he has telling me about his latest shift knob. Take my word for it- these products are made with love. Alright, enough sap.
